The Institut pour la Démocratie, founded in 1986, is a center of expertise specialized in the field of political engineering. Its purpose is to transcribe the principles of democracy into the most appropriate institutions. This starts with a better understanding of the concept of ‘democracy’ and acknowledging the rules that are most in line with the democratic model.

Independent from public authorities, it provides technical assistance to countries where the process of democratization is on-going and it contributes to the public debate in Western countries whose institutions are still imperfect.
